So the transformation is over. The table has been updated with a soft cottage white and rubbed in all the appropriate areas to make it the sweetest little "new old" find. She even got a steel wool manicure on her little tootsies! This set would be perfect in a kitchen nook or used in a family room as a game table. The chairs were recovered in a red ticking stripe that seems to work very well with vintage modern design that is becoming so popular. Clean lines but the worn look of yesterday. Check out the before and afters and tell me what you think!

And so the change begins
So much for the fall weather we were promised, but Edie is a trooper and attacked the project in spite of the heat. Stay tuned for progress reports!

Before Pictures
So here are the before pictures of the table and chairs that will be painted on the porch tomorrow. As you can see the table is a perfect petite size which could be used in a variety of places in your home. Obvious use would be the dining room, but it could also be right at home as a game table or a desk in your office. It has some sweet details and a timeless quality in its' design. As Edie reminded me this morning, "look at the lines, quality and function of a piece, not the finish; that can always be changed!" So, come by and have a snack on the porch, the weatherman is promising a beautiful fall day.

Painting on the Porch...don't miss the fun on Saturday!
Come and see how Edie Trageser of Originally Yours transforms old furniture with her paintbrush and a bit of imagination. I purchased a dining table and four chairs that have sat in the shop for quite some time, so time to put new life into these old pieces. As most of you know I don't like to have the same things in the shop for a long time, boring for me and you. So I decided to have Edie rework these pieces and see if you will like them any better! She will be painting on the porch beginning at 10AM, Saturday, September 25th. I do love my sweet little table and chairs but I would like to see them go to a good home someday! I will post some before and after pictures, but why not come down to the store and see the process for yourself.

What is the "vibe" at REfind?
Customers often ask me what "style" I think REfind represents. I have had a hard time answering this question for a few reasons. First of all my personal taste spans many styles from vintage to modern. I like french country, cottage, art deco, industrial as well as plan old traditional! Second, I have no control over what consignors will bring to the store for consignment, and frankly, sometimes even though something may not be my personal favorite, somethings are just plain neat! And finally I think sometimes we limit ourselves and our decor by saying, "I only like cottage things". Sometimes it is the juxtaposition of different objects that make each item stand out and look like something important. In arriving at your own personal style find things you love, and your home will be uniquely yours!
So today these came into the shop. What do you think? Uh, what were you thinking Carey or wow, those are cool, can't wait to have one in my own home!

Gourd Crazy
I love these gourds! For those of you who feel decoratively challenged these gourds are the answer to your troubles. They look great in any container or just strewn across the center of your table or mantle. You can add pine cones or fall leaves for a easy, no fuss table arrangement that will take you from now until after Thanksgiving.

Victrola Cabinet turned Bar
On a recent hunt I found a wonderful old piece that can be so easily transformed. This old 1950's Victrola cabinet once housed an old RCA Record Player. Like so many cabinets that have been manufactured over the years it had a very specific use. Some of the time it is hard to imagine how a cabinet can be used for anything other than what it was originally designed for (right now I am seeing hundreds of the armoires that were so popular in the eighties to hold our huge deep TV's.) This piece has awesome lines and doors as well as a rich patina that brings back memoires of the good times when television was the latest invention. Today I can see this piece as an awesome bar. It has space for glasses, bottles, bar supplies and doors that open and are finished so nicely on the inside. The Victrola symbol with the dog is even on the inside of one of the doors. It seems like many of the huge bars of the old rec room are now passe. Many are looking for a furniture piece to house a few of their favorite bar items and give a chic appeance in a smaller place close to where they entertain.

Beginning to feel a bit like Fall
Fall colors of brown, gold and orange, wool hooked pillows and heavy iron. Just a few of the things at REfind that are making me look forward to fall! After the lovely long weekend it is hard not to get excited about all the fun decorating projects to be done over the next few months.
